20” Arranbee Dream Baby This little girl came to me withsevere damage to her arms and legs and heavy crazing on her head. Her arms and legs have been stripped of alloriginal finish, sanded, primed and repainted. She does have a small chip on the heel of one foot, but it does notdetract from her beauty. Her head hadsome long deep craze lines. The crazinghas been professionally treated and her original features have been preserved. Her brown tin sleep eyes are a little stickybut do open and close. She has been redressed in abeautiful white organdy dress and bloomers trimmed in antique cotton lace. She also has a new batiste under slip trimmedin picot cotton trim. My Approach to Composition Restoration/Repair: When restoring or repairing these 80-100-year-olddolls great care is put into replicating their features to a "from thefactory" state. These old dolls just do not survive the test of timevery well. Restoration/repair is often needed. Composition dollshave a lot of factory imperfections in their finish that other materials do nothave, these imperfections are simply part of the charm of composition. I only do what the doll needs and leave as much of theoriginal paint and finish as possible. There are no missing fingers or toes. The eyes and facial features are all present and neatly painted. I usepaints which are remarkably like the ones used by the factory. I try to sendthem out redressed in an outfit that uses materials true to the era. I striveto use only cotton, rayon, and silk. I avoid polyester fabric andlace whenever possible. This is truly a labor of love; I am simplyrestoring and/or repairing these babies for generations to come. About me: I grew up playingwith my grandmother's Baby Beautiful. I developed and interest in dollrestoration when I sent my beloved Baby Beautiful “Betty Lou” to have a fullrestoration. The results were stunning, and I wasoverjoyed. I was looking for the factory original attire for a BabyBeautiful on eBay and noticed all the dumpster dollies out there and felt theneed to save them. I found a class within driving distance of myhome and have been saving these little darlings one doll at a time. Iquickly decided to specialize in composition dolls, and I have been working oncomposition dolls for 8 years. These dolls arerestored/repaired in a smoke-free home. I do have dogs and a cat,but they are not allowed into the doll studio. You can find me on Facebook at Arlington Doll Rescue, I haveadditional pictures of this doll on my Facebook page.
