    Here is a lot of 4 Temperance cards, used to "take the pledge" when you took a solemn oath to swear off intoxicating beverages, generally after hearing a pretty strongly-wording sermon from a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union.  These cards bear the name, and possibly the photo, of W.C. Rankin, a minister who often traveled with the legendary Carrie Nation and preached in support of her cause.  I do not know the age of these--they came out of a basement storage room during an estate sale and to all appearances had been there quite a long time.  They are printed on card stock and are in mint condition, with perhaps a bit of yellowing or browning at the very edges.  Definitely a conversation piece and if you're determined to "swear off" the old-fashioned way....here are the old-fashioned cards to do it with (you can even recruit three friends!).  Good luck and happy bidding!
