Steam Ship Ferry Boat Captain's Wheel over 70 years old +
in excellent condition.
In 1941 it was a car ferry "New York" Ran between New Castel Delaware and Pennsville, New Jersey.
In 1947 Again a car ferry Norfolk Ran between Norfolk and Hampton.
In 1958 Car Ferry Newport Ran between Newport and Jamestown Rhode Island ( as I kid I remember taking  rides over to Newport on the Ferry.
In 1969 The Ferry was bough up to the Blackstone River and redesigned into a
"Youth Center Art Colony"
in  Pawtucket, RI. After Federal funding was no longer available the Youth Center closed it's doors to the kids.
In 1977 Setaucket Yacht Club in Port Jefferson, New York.
In 1980 The Ferry Boat was made into a Dinner Restaurant by the DiMillo's, in Maine.
In 1994 This "Original Rudder" was removed when in dry dock at Bathe Iron Works, to install a new one.
As for how I became the owner of this grand wheel for over 50 years is a story belonging to the wonderful kids, who, at the time, enjoyed the
Art Colony
and were broken hearted to see it go.
As the story goes after many hours of sweat, strength and physical labor the kids removed the wheel off the boat and gifted it to my then Husband (who helped redesign the boat for the City of Pawtucket and the Youth Center)  and family, prior to the boat leaving the Blackstone River over 50 years ago.
Note: only flaw on the Wheel is when taking the Wheel off the steering, you can see slight marks. ( a man on a galloping horse, will never see it) Also when displayed the flaw is on the back of the Wheel.
This Wheel holds so much history and many, many stories of the sea. I am sadden to have to sell it, but am moving and downsizing. I have had many wonderful years of joy displaying and explaining how I became the owner of such a wonderful piece of History and Art.
Height of this Authentic Steam Ship is 3.5 Ft high.  It is an original Maritime Steam Ship wheel.
