    Description

A very fine ethnographic collectable. This Vintage Aboriginal hand woven Dilly Bag from Mornington Island Australia is in excellent pristine condition. It is hand woven from Pandanus Palm leaf fibers that have been naturally dyed. It has never been used for functional purposes. It was purchased by my family in 1992, and has been in safe storage ever since. These aboriginal woven items are difficult to find outside of Australia.
It comes with a tag from its original gallery purchase. The tag has hand written on it, "Mary Warren" and "Aurukun Basket, Grace Yunkaporta," but it is unclear if this writing applies to to this piece. Aurukun is a aboriginal community in the Cape York Peninsula facing the Gulf of Carpentaria. While Mornington Island is in the Gulf of Carpentaria, the people on the island are not part of the Aurukun clan group. There is a woven basket by Grace Yunkaporta in the National Museum of Australia.
On the back of the tag it gives a more accurate and applicable description of the dilly bag, but there it does not name the weaver artist.
The item will be shipped carefully packed in a box with proper padding. If you choose to ship with USPS this item will be shipped with added insurance.
Fedex shipping will not have additional insurance.
    Sold as is. No returns.
