    Description

Offering for your consideration is this Vintage 3 Piece Japanese Appetizer or Dessert Server.  This glossy black lacquer ware server consists of a large Round Canister bottom section that can be used as a serving tray alone or as a holder for the clear acrylic divided insert serving tray and a hand-painted lid with a floral burnt orange and gold motif.  The item is approximately 11.5" in diameter and the bottom lacquer tray is 2.25" deep.  The divided acrylic is 11" diameter and 1.25"  deep.  The lid is about .75"  high and is very easy to add or remove from the container for serving.  These very popular Asian items are sure to add a unique and elegant look to your table or buffet.   Japanese lacquer ware is known as some of the best in the world.  Gold foil JAPAN hallmark on bottom.  This item is most likely a product of the 1950's or early 60s and is in excellent condition.  It has several minimal areas of paint or surface scratches along the upper interior rim (see last photo).  They are smooth to the touch when rubbing my finger over them so I believe now as I have always believed that the area is actually stray paint.  I have never tried to remove it as I can't be sure and didn't want to cause any additional marring.
